The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles has released the 2026 holiday schedule for its consular document hall, covering both Chinese public holidays and US federal holidays. If you plan to apply for a visa, passport or travel document in person, work around the dates below.

1. 2026 holiday schedule (document hall closed to the public)

No. Date Holiday
1January 1New Year's Day
2January 19US federal holiday
3February 16–18Chinese New Year
4May 1International Labor Day
5May 25US federal holiday
6June 19Chinese Dragon Boat Festival
7July 3US federal holiday
8September 7US federal holiday
9October 1–5Chinese National Day
10October 12US federal holiday
11November 11US federal holiday
12November 26–27US federal holiday
13December 25US federal holiday

Any temporary changes will be announced on the Consulate website — please check there for updates.

2. October closure (officially announced)

In line with the holiday schedule, the consular document hall will be closed to the public on:

  • Thursday, October 1 through Monday, October 5, 2026 — Chinese National Day
  • Monday, October 12, 2026 — US federal holiday

That means five consecutive closed days in early October; counting the surrounding weekends, the number of workable days that week is very limited.

3. How to plan around it

  • The days around holidays are known peak days — crowded, with long waits. Avoid them if you can.
  • If you are traveling soon (say, departing in mid or late October), submit before the end of September rather than getting caught in the National Day closure.
  • Mail-in applicants should also count closure days into the processing timeline — nothing is processed while the hall is closed.
  • Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00–14:00 (closed on holidays).
💡 Keyus Visa Tip
National Day and Chinese New Year are the most congested times of the year for consular services, and clients regularly miss their travel dates simply because they did not count the closure days. If you are traveling to China in October or later this year, work backwards from your departure date now. Contact us if you would like help estimating your timeline.
