Chinese citizens residing in the United States may apply for passport renewal (expiring or expired) or replacement (lost or damaged) at Chinese consular offices. The Los Angeles Consulate General currently requires applicants to schedule an appointment through the "China Consular" app and appear in person with all required documents.

Search for "中国领事" (China Consular) in your phone's app store — the official app with a blue icon. After registering and completing identity verification, you can use the app for appointments, status tracking, and form downloads.
Passport Renewal (Expiring / Expired) — Required Documents
- Passport renewal application form (completed and printed from the China Consular app, signed by the applicant)
- Original old passport (expiring soon or already expired)
- Copy of old passport bio page and signature page (A4 paper)
- Copy of US lawful status (Green Card or valid visa)
- Recent color ID photo with white background (2" × 2", 48mm×33mm, taken within the past 6 months, no glasses)
- Copy of Chinese household registration (hukou) booklet — front page and personal page — if available
Passport Replacement (Lost or Damaged) — Required Documents
- Passport loss/damage declaration form (download from the China Consular app, signed by the applicant)
- Passport replacement application form (completed and printed from the app)
- US police report for lost passport (for loss cases — original English document)
- Recent ID photo (same requirements as above)
- Identity proof: any one of — Chinese national ID card, hukou booklet, or copy of old passport
- Copy of US lawful status
Application Process
- Open the China Consular app, log in, and navigate to "Passport / Travel Document" → "Passport Renewal" or "Passport Replacement."
- Fill in the application form and upload a digital photo.
- Schedule an appointment at the consulate (typically 1–3 weeks in advance).
- Bring all original physical documents to the LA Consulate (500 Shatto Place, Los Angeles) at your scheduled time.
- Once processed, pick up the new passport at the notified time, or opt for mail-back using a prepaid return envelope.
Processing Time & Fees
- Regular processing: approximately 10–15 business days
- Expedited processing: approximately 5 business days (additional fee)
- Fee: approximately $30–$50 (cash or Money Order; confirm with consulate)
